 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, Seldom in the annals of American baseball has there

 1-4     been a pitcher as great as Nolan Ryan; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

 1-6     congratulate him on reaching an important milestone in his life;

 1-7     his 50th birthday occurs on January 31, 1997; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, An amazingly accurate pitcher since his childhood,

 1-9     this true American hero began his baseball career with the New York

1-10     Mets in 1966; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Nolan Ryan ended his illustrious career with the

1-12     Texas Rangers, throwing his final pitch on September 22, 1993; and

1-13           WHEREAS, In 1967 he married his high school sweetheart,

1-14     Ruth, and the devoted couple made a home and raised their three

1-15     children with family values; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Mr. Ryan is quite successful in business and

1-17     ranching; he is an outstanding product endorser because people

1-18     know that he is a small town boy who accomplished great feats

1-19     without compromising his morals or his values; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Despite his fame and achievements, Nolan Ryan is

1-21     modest about his success; almost every person can identify with

1-22     him; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Appointed a commissioner of the Texas Parks and

 2-1     Wildlife Department, Nolan Ryan is the embodiment of the American

 2-2     dream; now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-4     75th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Nolan Ryan on the

 2-5     momentous occasion of his 50th birthday and wish him many more

 2-6     years of success and happiness; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

 2-8     Nolan Ryan as an expression of the high regard and esteem of the

 2-9     Texas Senate.
