No. 100 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 1-4 in joining the residents of Collin County in declaring Wednesday, 1-5 February 26, 1997, as Collin County Day; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Created from Fannin County, Collin County 1-7 was organized in 1846 and was named for the pioneer settler 1-8 Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence; 1-9 the county is located in Northeast Texas and was originally Caddo 1-10 Indian country; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Known for its rich, black clay soil, Collin County 1-12 is a source of timber and is a major agricultural area that 1-13 produces wheat, hay, sorghum, and cotton; beef cattle, horses, 1-14 and the dairy industry are income producers for the area; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Over the years, industrial development and 1-16 population growth in the county have been managed with care in 1-17 order to preserve natural habitats and historical sites; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Many of the area's old homes have been restored, 1-19 and residents and tourists enjoy visiting the Old Collin County 1-20 Post Office, the McKinney Historical District, and the Heard 1-21 Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The county offers attractive scenery and excellent 1-23 recreational opportunities; fishing and water sports are popular 2-1 at Lake Lavon, and McKinney, the county seat, is host to a trade 2-2 center, a fashion outlet, museums, the Bolin Wildlife Exhibit, 2-3 and Wilson Creek Park; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Plano is one of the state's fastest growing 2-5 cities; the city is home to various manufacturing headquarters 2-6 and is a growing commercial and financial center; it has an 2-7 award-winning park system, a farmers' market, and a premier 2-8 54-hole miniature golf course; host to a balloon festival each 2-9 September, the city has become known as the "Balloon Capital 2-10 of Texas"; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Collin County Day is an opportunity for friends 2-12 and families to gather together and celebrate the county's 2-13 history and its many assets; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 75th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people 2-16 of Collin County for their preservation of the county's history 2-17 and natural amenities and extend best wishes to them for a joyous 2-18 Collin County Day; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-20 the residents of Collin County as an expression of esteem from 2-21 the Texas Senate. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 President of the Senate 2-24 I hereby certify that the above 2-25 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-26 on February 26, 1997. 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 Secretary of the Senate 2-29 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Member, Texas Senate
