 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary is a grand occasion that

 1-4     calls for much celebration; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rodgers of Trenton, Texas, have

 1-6     reason to rejoice; since Ilene Henry and Joe Rodgers were married

 1-7     on February 8, 1947, they have spent 50 years together in loyalty

 1-8     and devotion; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, The family and friends of this beloved couple

1-10     joined them on February 8, 1997, at the First Methodist Church

1-11     in Trenton to congratulate them and share in their joy; the

1-12     reception was hosted by their children and grandchildren; and

1-13           WHEREAS, The loving respect Ilene and Joe share with one

1-14     another is evident to all who are fortunate to know them; and

1-15           WHEREAS, The son of Lonnie and Velma Rodgers of

1-16     Detroit, Texas, Joe graduated from high school and joined the

1-17     United States Army, admirably serving his country for three years

1-18     during World War II; the retired postal worker holds a record of

1-19     35 years' employment with civil service; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Ilene is the daughter of Hamilton and Delia Henry

1-21     of Leonard, where she attended school; a dedicated wife and

1-22     mother, she worked at the Greenville Telephone Company and

1-23     in Lubbock as a PBX operator; she also taught preschool in

 2-1     Lubbock Day School before retiring; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, This happy couple has been blessed with a

 2-3     wonderful family; their daughter and son-in-law, Donna and

 2-4     Andy Anderson, and their grandchildren, Christopher, Delia Joy,

 2-5     and K-Dee, are the source of much pride and pleasure; now,

 2-6     therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-8     75th Legislature, hereby join the relatives and friends

 2-9     of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rodgers in extending best wishes and

2-10     congratulations to them on their golden wedding anniversary;

2-11     and, be it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared

2-13     for the distinguished couple as a memento of this glorious

2-14     occasion.
