 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, It is indeed an honor for the State of Texas

 1-4     to be invited to join Queensland, Australia, in a "Sister State

 1-5     Agreement"; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, In the spirit of international friendship, the

 1-7     State of Queensland has proposed the possibility of developing

 1-8     a close relationship with the Lone Star State which would be

 1-9     mutually beneficial to both partners; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Sharing a positive approach to life and work,

1-11     Texas and Queensland are blessed with citizens who are energetic

1-12     and actively pursue creative goals; and

1-13           WHEREAS, In order to achieve success in such a sister

1-14     agreement, the Governor of Texas has proposed the creation of

1-15     Sister State Friendship Committees to foster active dialogue

1-16     and exchange with our cultural partners; and

1-17           WHEREAS, The committees would be composed of eager,

1-18     capable people from the private sector dedicated to the

1-19     exchange of dialogue between individuals, businesses,

1-20     educational institutions, and cultural entities; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Texas is noted for her hospitality, and the

1-22     Sister State Friendship Committees would reflect the high

1-23     esteem that our citizens hold for our friends by offering

 2-1     them true international friendship; now, therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-3     75th Legislature, hereby express its appreciation to the

 2-4     Premier of Queensland, Australia, for his interest in

 2-5     developing a "Sister State Agreement" with the Lone Star

 2-6     State; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared

 2-8     as an expression by the Texas Senate of its interest in

 2-9     strengthening the close ties of the two states through the

2-10     creation of Sister State Friendship Committees.
