No. 130 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize Ballet Folklorico Ocotochtli, a Southwest Texas State 1-5 University student organization, on the occasion of its Second 1-6 Annual Festival Folklorico Invitational on February 21-22, 1997; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, Last year's Festival Folklorico Invitational was 1-9 the first tournament of its kind in the central Texas area; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Attempting to bring cultural diversity to 1-11 Southwest Texas State University, the exhibition has evolved to 1-12 become an event which includes leadership, cultural programming, 1-13 recruiting, and networking; and 1-14 WHEREAS, At a conference of the Asociacion Nacional de 1-15 Grupos Folklorico in Corpus Christi, members became interested 1-16 in the tournament and planned to attend the 1997 festival; 1-17 master instructors from Mexico requested permission to make up 1-18 the judging panel and to provide workshops during the event; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Cohosted by the San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of 1-20 Commerce, Southwest Texas State University, the San Marcos 1-21 Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the City of San Marcos, the 1-22 Festival Folklorico Invitational has created a system for the 1-23 continued growth of participating folklorico high schools, 2-1 colleges, and universities and community groups from across the 2-2 state; and 2-3 WHEREAS, In 1996, the festival hosted 23 groups and over 2-4 500 participants and guests; in 1997, the festival is expected 2-5 to grow, with a different format and the addition of workshops; 2-6 now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 75th Legislature, hereby commend the Ballet Folklorico Ocotochtli 2-9 of Southwest Texas State University and applaud the Festival 2-10 Folklorico Invitational 1997; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-12 the members of the student dance group as an expression of the 2-13 high esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on February 6, 1997. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
