 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to

 1-4     congratulate former Texas State Senator Peggy Rosson for her

 1-5     manifold contributions to District 29 and to the State of Texas;

 1-6     and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Born in Indianapolis, the respected former solon

 1-8     has lived in El Paso since 1954; a woman who has filled many roles,

 1-9     she has been a homemaker, a paralegal, and a businesswoman; and

1-10           WHEREAS, With a long history of community and governmental

1-11     service, Senator Rosson has been best known for her work in the

1-12     field of regulating utilities; and

1-13           WHEREAS, In 1983, she became the first woman appointed to

1-14     the Public Utility Commission and was elected chair in 1985; while

1-15     she was with the Public Utility Commission, she was chair of the

1-16     Task Force on Consumer Rights; and

1-17           WHEREAS, During her tenure at the Public Utility Commission,

1-18     Peggy Rosson was a member of both the Telecommunications and Energy

1-19     Conservation committees of the National Association of Regulatory

1-20     Utility Commissioners; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Peggy Rosson was elected to the Texas State Senate

1-22     in 1990, and her constituents were fortunate to have such an able

1-23     senator looking after their interests; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, During her legislative career, this outstanding

 2-2     lady served on the State Affairs, Economic Development, and

 2-3     Natural Resources committees; she also served on the Governor's

 2-4     Health Policy Task Force; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, An industrious and effective public servant,

 2-6     Senator Rosson was vice chairman of the Economic Development

 2-7     Committee and was on the Intergovernmental Relations, State

 2-8     Affairs, and International Relations, Trade and Technology

 2-9     committees during her final legislative session in 1995; and

2-10           WHEREAS, Dedicated to the interests of the citizens of Texas,

2-11     she has been honored many times by different organizations; she won

2-12     the Texas Outstanding Public Service Award from the Texas Consumers

2-13     Union and the SERTOMA Service to Mankind Award, was named

2-14     Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Greater El Paso Realtors

2-15     Association, won the Legislator of the Year Award from the El Paso

2-16     Municipal Police Officers' Association, and was named recipient of

2-17     the City of El Paso Conquistador Award for Public Service; and

2-18           WHEREAS, Loved and supported by her husband, Joe L. Rosson,

2-19     Peggy Rosson has been an estimable servant of the State of Texas;

2-20     and

2-21           WHEREAS, The many accomplishments of Peggy Rosson have

2-22     contributed greatly to the growth and progress of her city,

2-23     community, and state; now, therefore, be it

2-24           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-25     75th Legislature, hereby applaud and commend the sterling

 3-1     career of service of the Honorable Peggy Rosson; and, be it

 3-2     further

 3-3           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

 3-4     her as an expression of the highest regard and esteem of the

 3-5     Texas Senate.
