 1-4                                     of

 1-5                              Sarah Rivera Leal

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens

 1-7     of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Sarah Rivera Leal, who

 1-8     died February 1, 1997, at the age of 85; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Born in Hochheim, Texas, she was the daughter of

1-10     Sabas and Gregoria Garcia Rivera; and

1-11           WHEREAS, One of the founding Foster Grandparents at the

1-12     Corpus Christi State School, she continued with this activity

1-13     for 20 years; and

1-14           WHEREAS, A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother,

1-15     Mrs. Leal supported her husband in his career and created a loving

1-16     home for her family; and

1-17           WHEREAS, A woman of deep religious convictions, Sarah was

1-18     a devout member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; she

1-19     was also a member of the Guadalupanas; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Her warmth, helpfulness, and generosity of spirit

1-21     brought a sense of well-being to those around her; and

1-22           WHEREAS, A woman of many accomplishments, Mrs. Leal was

1-23     hardworking, resourceful, and charming; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, A respected and beloved member of her community,

 2-2     Mrs. Leal will be remembered for her devotion to her family,

 2-3     her friends, and her church; she leaves behind a legacy of

 2-4     compassion and commitment that will be cherished by those

 2-5     who knew her; now, therefore, be it

 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-7     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to

 2-8     the members of her family:  her daughters, Mary Vasquez and

 2-9     Eledine Reyna; her sons, Armando Leal, Arnold Leal, Rick Leal,

2-10     Sammy Leal, and H. D. Leal; her sisters, Amelia Medina and

2-11     Julia Moreno; her brothers, Reymundo Rivera, Joe Rivera,

2-12     Audelio Rivera, and Luis Rivera; and her 28 grandchildren

2-13     and 26 great-grandchildren; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared

2-15     for the members of her family as an expression of deepest

2-16     sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate

2-17     adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sarah Rivera Leal.
