 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly recognizes

 1-4     the members of the Ganado High School football team on their fine

 1-5     performances and their exceptionally exciting 1996 football season;

 1-6     and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Exhibiting perseverance and hard work throughout the

 1-8     year, the team players and the coaches deserve to be proud of their

 1-9     efforts and outstanding accomplishments; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The Ganado Indians were undefeated during the 10-game

1-11     regular season and were victorious during the first four rounds of

1-12     the playoffs; their state championship hopes came to an end with a

1-13     14-6 loss to the Groveton Indians in the state Class 2A semifinals;

1-14     and

1-15           WHEREAS, The Groveton team is ranked number one in its class

1-16     and has been a regular playoff contender, while the Ganado team has

1-17     just recently turned the tide in the last two years after a string

1-18     of unsuccessful seasons; Head Coach Monte Althaus is credited with

1-19     turning the team around during the last two seasons and with

1-20     guiding the team to its impressive 23-1 record; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Averaging more than 300 yards per game on offense,

1-22     the Ganado Indians outscored their opponents 442-103; the defense

1-23     intercepted 27 passes and allowed just over 200 yards per game; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, The success of the team is a tribute to the practice,

 2-2     dedication, and talent of the players and the guidance, patience,

 2-3     and inspiration of Coach Althaus and the assistant coaches; now,

 2-4     therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-6     75th Legislature, hereby join the staff and students of Ganado High

 2-7     School in expressing congratulations to the Indians and appreciation

 2-8     for the credit they have brought to the school and the community;

 2-9     and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-11     the Ganado High School Indians as a memento of the team's successful

2-12     1996 season.
