 1-1                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-3     recognizing Arthur Migala as an outstanding citizen of our state

 1-4     and founder of The Migala Foundation; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Arthur Migala is well known for his exceptional

 1-6     work on behalf of the disadvantaged youths of the South Dallas

 1-7     area; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, A dedicated and active humanitarian, he

 1-9     established The Migala Foundation to promote educational

1-10     excellence and community involvement for students who are

1-11     described as underprivileged by their school districts; and

1-12           WHEREAS, One of the primary goals of The Migala Foundation is

1-13     to encourage parental and community involvement with after-school

1-14     tutoring programs for students in the elementary schools, middle

1-15     schools, and high schools; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The foundation also assists the schools with

1-17     purchasing educational materials; the foundation acquires older

1-18     computers from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and distributes

1-19     them to South Dallas area schools or individuals who need them; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Mr. Migala is creating a scholarship program,

1-21     The Educational Excellence Program, which will help graduating

1-22     seniors who are underprivileged; these students must be successful

1-23     scholastically, active in their community, and motivated to attend

 2-1     college; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Mr. Migala gives generously of his time, energy, and

 2-3     funds to help disadvantaged youths improve their lives, further

 2-4     their education, and enjoy a wide variety of opportunities they

 2-5     would not have without the help of the foundation; in 1996, he

 2-6     arranged to take a group of high-achieving, disadvantaged students

 2-7     to the pennant race for the Texas Rangers; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, Arthur Migala is an exemplary and distinguished

 2-9     gentleman and a source of strength to many youths, and he has

2-10     played a major role in the betterment of the South Dallas

2-11     community; now, therefore, be it

2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-13     75th Legislature, hereby commend Arthur Migala on his humanitarian

2-14     projects and extend to him appreciation for establishing The Migala

2-15     Foundation; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him

2-17     as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
