1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
1-4 in recognizing Demetrius G. McDaniel on his admission to the
1-5 partnership of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Working in the Texas House of Representatives from
1-7 1981 to 1983, he served as a staff assistant to a house member,
1-8 where he monitored legislation and worked with the legislative
1-9 staff to promote the house member's legislative package; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Later, Mr. McDaniel served as a clerk for several
1-11 subcommittees requiring a detailed knowledge of rules of procedure
1-12 and house protocol, and he performed these duties admirably;
1-13 following this job, he was a vice clerk of the Committee on
1-14 Elections, with responsibilities including reading, analyzing
1-15 legislation, and drafting bill analyses for members of the
1-16 legislature; and
1-17 WHEREAS, After earning his undergraduate degree at
1-18 The University of Texas at Austin in business administration
1-19 and finance, this outstanding young man received his doctor of
1-20 jurisprudence degree from The University of Texas School of Law
1-21 in 1990; and
1-22 WHEREAS, From 1983 to 1988, Mr. McDaniel worked as a special
1-23 assistant to the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture, where he worked
2-1 as a liaison between the Agriculture Commissioner and legislators;
2-2 and
2-3 WHEREAS, Joining Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld in 1988
2-4 as a governmental consultant, he began practicing law with this
2-5 renowned firm in 1991; he specializes in public law and policy and
2-6 legislative and administrative law; and
2-7 WHEREAS, Mr. McDaniel represents mainly business clients,
2-8 counseling them on administrative agency rules and procedures and
2-9 on issues about contracts, securities, corporations, and public
2-10 finance; and
2-11 WHEREAS, Professional affiliations of Mr. McDaniel include
2-12 the American Bar Association, the Texas Bar Association, and the
2-13 Travis County Bar Association; he is also an active member in
2-14 several local civic, charitable, and business organizations; now,
2-15 therefore, be it
2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-17 75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere congratulations to
2-18 Demetrius G. McDaniel on his becoming a partner in the law firm
2-19 of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld; and, be it further
2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-21 him as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
