 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing David Esquivel of Irving, Texas, on his recent exemplary

 1-5     performance in helping to save the lives of his neighbors; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, After a youth informed him that a house was on fire,

 1-7     David Esquivel ran to a neighbor's house to call 911 and then raced

 1-8     over to the home to try to rescue his elderly neighbors; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, David Esquivel entered the burning home three times,

1-10     groping through the darkness and battling heavy smoke and heat; on

1-11     his second trip, he rescued 78-year-old Polly Rodriguez, and shortly

1-12     thereafter, firefighters pulled Fred Rodriguez to safety; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Due to Mr. Esquivel's quick thinking and brave

1-14     actions, Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez survived the traumatic event; and

1-15           WHEREAS, By entering the burning house, David Esquivel

1-16     exhibited unusual courage and concern for his fellowman, and he

1-17     deserves recognition for this heroic deed; now, therefore, be it

1-18           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

1-19     75th Legislature, hereby commend David Esquivel on his valor and

1-20     extend to him appreciation for his successful efforts; and, be it

1-21     further

1-22           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him

1-23     as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
