No. 182 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Nelly Jimenez, a member of the 1997 Texas All-State 1-5 Academic Team; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Nelly Jimenez is one of six El Paso Community 1-7 College students who are competing in the national USA Today/PTK 1-8 Academic All-American competition; the students are being honored 1-9 February 20, 1997, in Austin as part of the Texas All-State 1-10 Academic Team; and 1-11 WHEREAS, These El Paso Community College students are 1-12 academically gifted students and are members of the Phi Theta Kappa 1-13 Texas Chapter for high academic achievers; and 1-14 WHEREAS, After having faced a number of hardships during her 1-15 childhood, Nelly turned her life around when she began attending 1-16 El Paso Community College and discovered her love for learning; 1-17 and 1-18 WHEREAS, For two years, she has been a member of the 1-19 school's Honors Program, and she currently serves as vice president 1-20 of El Paso Community College's M.E.Ch.A.; she helped to create 1-21 Project Genesis, a physics program that will produce data on the 1-22 air quality and stratosphere in the El Paso area; now, therefore, 1-23 be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 75th Legislature, hereby commend Nelly Jimenez on her exceptional 2-3 accomplishments and extend to her congratulations on earning a 2-4 place on the Texas All-State Academic Team; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-6 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-7 ______________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the above 2-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-11 on February 17, 1997. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
