By: Bivins S.R. No. 196 1-1 By: Bivins S.R. No. 196 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great 1-4 pleasure in honoring Charles W. Greenawalt, superintendent of the 1-5 Hereford Independent School District for the past 10 years, for 1-6 his exceptional contributions to the citizens of the district; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the school district has 1-9 implemented many new programs and innovations that will move 1-10 the district into the 21st century; the schools now offer a 1-11 strong and varied curriculum to meet the needs of students 1-12 in all grades; and 1-13 WHEREAS, With an enrollment of 4,500 students who are from 1-14 varied social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, the school 1-15 system has expanded its vocational and bilingual education 1-16 programs; it has expanded its migrant and gifted and talented 1-17 programs and has effectuated extensive Texas Assessment of 1-18 Academic Skills training; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. Greenawalt has worked diligently to implement 1-20 accelerated reading programs and restructure dyslexia reading 1-21 programs as well as an alternative high school program; career 1-22 and technology offerings have expanded, and the addition of 1-23 advanced placement at the high school has been implemented 2-1 along with numerous improvements in programs for students with 2-2 special needs; and 2-3 WHEREAS, With a widespread building program completed, 2-4 students enjoy up-to-date facilities that have improved the 2-5 learning environment; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Working effectively with community organizations 2-7 and local businesses, Mr. Greenawalt has succeeded in 2-8 establishing a close relationship with the public; the 2-9 administration building serves as a community center for 2-10 use by residents at no charge; a community education program 2-11 and adult education program were created, and the junior 2-12 colleges offer night classes at the high school; and 2-13 WHEREAS, His exceptional accomplishments will have a 2-14 long-lasting effect on the lives of the students at Hereford 2-15 Independent School District, their parents, and citizens 2-16 throughout the community; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-18 75th Legislature, hereby commend Charles W.
