 1-1                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to

 1-3     recognize Bob Green, who was recently named recipient of the

 1-4     Cornerstone Award by the Albany Chamber of Commerce at its annual

 1-5     banquet on February 8, 1997; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Cornerstone Award is given in acknowledgment of

 1-7     exemplary leadership and personal service leading to the economic

 1-8     and cultural growth of Albany; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Born on the Green Ranch near Breckenridge to pioneer

1-10     parents Henry and Willie Green, Bob Green attended school in Albany

1-11     before furthering his education at the New Mexico Military Institute

1-12     and The University of Texas; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Truly patriotic, he served in the United States Army

1-14     during World War II in the Pacific Theater; he saw action in the

1-15     invasions of Leyte and Okinawa as a medium tank platoon leader; he

1-16     was awarded the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars; and

1-17           WHEREAS, When the war was over, Bob Green married and moved

1-18     back to his family's ranch; and

1-19           WHEREAS, A longtime area rancher and historian, Bob still

1-20     lives on the remainder of the old Green Ranch with his wife,

1-21     Nancy; over half of the former ranch is covered by the present

1-22     day Hubbard Creek Lake; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Serving as the male narrator of the Fort Griffith

 2-1     Fandangle for 27 years, Mr. Green has had a lifelong interest

 2-2     in the history of the area, which led to his writing numerous

 2-3     guest columns for the Abilene Reporter-News and the Albany News;

 2-4     and

 2-5           WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, he serves on the board

 2-6     of the First National Bank of Albany/Breckenridge and has served

 2-7     on the Albany School Board, the Board of Overseers of the Ranch

 2-8     Heritage Center, and the Hendrick Medical Center Board; he was

 2-9     chairman of the board of the Lower Clear Fork of the Brazos Soil

2-10     Conservation District; such a devoted civic leader is certainly

2-11     worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-13     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Bob Green on being

2-14     named recipient of the Cornerstone Award; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him

2-16     as an expression of the highest esteem of the Texas Senate.
