No. 215 1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, It is indeed a pleasure for the Texas Senate to 1-4 extend congratulations to Judy McEnany for being chosen for 1-5 the 1997 Houston Texas Exes Teaching Award; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Chairperson of the Fine Arts Department at 1-7 Lamar High School, Mrs. McEnany has worked diligently to 1-8 revitalize the arts in the secondary school through her strong 1-9 espousal of school orchestra, band, dance, studio art, drama, and 1-10 choral music; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Over the past 30 years, she has worked tirelessly 1-12 to develop programs of the highest quality for all students, and 1-13 Lamar High School is one of the few public high schools in Houston 1-14 to have a comprehensive fine arts program with more than half of 1-15 the student body as participants; and 1-16 WHEREAS, As director of choral music, she teaches students 1-17 from a large urban high school who come from diverse cultural, 1-18 economic, and ethnic backgrounds; using the universal language 1-19 of music, Judy has instilled in her students a sense of 1-20 self-esteem and self-discipline that is reflected in the pride 1-21 they have for their school, community, and country; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A graduate of Newcomb College with a bachelor of arts 1-23 degree in music, she earned her master of music degree in conducting 2-1 from the University of Houston in 1977 and has continued to increase 2-2 her knowledge through participation in teachers workshops, conductors 2-3 institutes, and summer travel programs with her students to other 2-4 countries; and 2-5 WHEREAS, A firm believer that each child should have access 2-6 to the universal masterpieces of art, music, and literature, 2-7 Mrs. McEnany sees her role as a teacher to develop in each student 2-8 his intellectual and artistic abilities in preparing for all of life; 2-9 and 2-10 WHEREAS, A wonderful role model, she has an excellent rapport 2-11 with her students and her love for her work is evident in her 2-12 enthusiasm, dedication, and skillful direction; her ability to bring 2-13 out the best in each child has resulted in her students performing 2-14 diverse and difficult performances for the enjoyment of the school 2-15 and the community; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Judy McEnany has imparted a magnificent gift to her 2-17 students to carry with them the rest of their lives: the joy of 2-18 performing, the knowledge of the arts, and a sense of personal 2-19 accomplishment; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-21 75th Legislature, hereby commend Judy McEnany for her exceptional 2-22 contributions to her students, her community, and the arts; and, 2-23 be it further 2-24 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this 2-25 distinguished educator as an expression of the appreciation and 3-1 high regard of the Texas Senate. 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 President of the Senate 3-4 I hereby certify that the above 3-5 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-6 on February 20, 1997. 3-7 ______________________________________ 3-8 Secretary of the Senate 3-9 ______________________________________ 3-10 Member, Texas Senate
