1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-3 WHEREAS, W. Carroll Smith is the recipient of the
1-4 1997 TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award, and the Texas Senate
1-5 is pleased to extend congratulations to him for receiving this
1-6 signal honor; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Owner of Timmers Chevrolet, Incorporated,
1-8 in Pasadena, Texas, Mr. Smith was recognized at the National
1-9 Automobile Dealers Association Convention in Atlanta attended by
1-10 more than 20,000 individuals involved in the automobile industry;
1-11 and
1-12 WHEREAS, The TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award program
1-13 acknowledges outstanding new car dealers for exceptional performance
1-14 in their dealerships and distinguished community service; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Smith helped
1-16 his father after school in his truck dealership, where he gained
1-17 valuable knowledge of the business; he continued to work in sales
1-18 at his father's dealership during the summers while he was attending
1-19 Georgia Tech; he also worked part-time in sales at Timmers Chevrolet
1-20 in Atlanta during the school year; and
1-21 WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor of science degree in
1-22 industrial management in 1971, Mr. Smith joined his father's
1-23 dealership and was highly successful in the sales department; he
2-1 went into partnership with the Timmers family when they purchased
2-2 Timmers Chevrolet, Incorporated, in Pasadena and became the youngest
2-3 ever metropolitan Chevrolet dealer; and
2-4 WHEREAS, Built on integrity and business acumen, Timmers
2-5 Chevrolet, Incorporated, is a major dealership offering Chevrolet
2-6 and Geo products; Mr. Smith is proud of the company's reputation
2-7 for customer satisfaction, and he has worked closely with his
2-8 employees to train and motivate them to share in the success of
2-9 the dealership; and
2-10 WHEREAS, He has contributed his time and energies to various
2-11 community and civic endeavors including the Pasadena Rotary Club,
2-12 Chamber of Commerce, Rodeo Association, Salvation Army, Boy Scout
2-13 Troop 642, and the San Jacinto Young Men's Christian Association;
2-14 and
2-15 WHEREAS, Nominated for the TIME Magazine Quality
2-16 Dealer Award by the Houston Automobile Dealers Association,
2-17 W. Carroll Smith has received numerous awards and honors for his
2-18 contributions to his profession; twice selected to the National
2-19 Chevrolet Dealers Council, he was a Perkins Challenge Winner in
2-20 1996 and is chairman of the Houston Automobile Dealers Association,
2-21 which he has been a member of for 20 years; now, therefore, be it
2-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-23 75th Legislature, hereby recognize W. Carroll Smith for his
2-24 notable accomplishments and extend best wishes to him for continued
2-25 success in his future endeavors; and, be it further
3-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3-2 him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
