1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 228 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Katy Taylor High School's academic decathlon team 1-4 on capturing the United States Academic Decathlon Championship 1-5 title; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Overwhelming its rivals from California and Illinois, 1-7 the Katy Taylor High School team proudly claimed victory at the 1-8 championship competition held in Saint George, Utah, when it 1-9 achieved the all-time highest score ever recorded for the event; and 1-10 WHEREAS, After two days of rigorous academic exams, the team 1-11 scored 52,260 points, and its members earned approximately 40 medals 1-12 for individual achievement in specific academic subjects; every team 1-13 member won at least two of the personal gold, silver, or bronze 1-14 medals; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This outstanding accomplishment reflects the 1-16 superior leadership of the school's administration and the talent 1-17 and dedication of its faculty and students; special tribute goes 1-18 to Principal James McDonald, Senior Principal B. H. Riefkohl, 1-19 team coaches Cynthia Swetnam and Susan Shellum, and team members 1-20 Chris Banse, Steven Chang, Anjan Choudhury, Saamir Hassan, 1-21 Michael Lebold, Eric Madrazo, Simon Peron, Scott Schneider, 1-22 and Shaumo Sadhukhan; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Katy Taylor High School has consistently aimed at 2-1 providing resources, programs, and experiences that would inspire 2-2 excellence in student performance, and the academic decathlon 2-3 victory reflects the school's success; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 75th Legislature, hereby commend the administration and academic 2-6 decathlon coaches and team members on earning the prestigious 2-7 United States Academic Decathlon Championship and extend to them 2-8 and all associated with the school best wishes for the future; and, 2-9 be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-11 Katy Taylor High School as an expression of esteem from the 2-12 Texas Senate. 2-13 Brown 2-14 Lindsay 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 President of the Senate 2-17 I hereby certify that the above 2-18 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-19 on May 9, 1997. 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Secretary of the Senate 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Member, Texas Senate 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
