No. 234 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 recognize February 28, 1997, as Taiwan Peace Day and commend 1-5 the Taiwanese Association of America, Dallas Chapter; and 1-6 WHEREAS, This day commemorates the time, 50 years ago, when 1-7 the Formosan Chinese demonstrated in front of the Taiwan Bureau 1-8 of Monopoly in Taipei, and their demonstration was disrupted by 1-9 gunfire from the forces under Chiang Kai-Shek; an unsettling era 1-10 ensued; and 1-11 WHEREAS, It is the hope of the Taiwanese Association of 1-12 America that designating this day as a day of peace will lay to 1-13 rest the sad memories and concentrate on the good which has been 1-14 accomplished since that time; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Today, Taiwan has evolved into a democratic country 1-16 with a robust economy because of the brave and selfless actions 1-17 of patriots during the unsettled era; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Seat of the Republic of China since 1949, Taiwan 1-19 today wants to forgive the unfortunate past and look toward the 1-20 future; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-22 75th Legislature, hereby applaud the Taiwanese Association of 1-23 America and proclaim February 28, 1997, as Taiwan Peace Day; 2-1 and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-3 the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Taiwanese Association of America 2-4 as an expression of the great regard and the high esteem of the 2-5 Texas Senate. 2-6 ______________________________________ 2-7 President of the Senate 2-8 I hereby certify that the above 2-9 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-10 on February 24, 1997. 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Secretary of the Senate 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Member, Texas Senate
