No. 238 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing George Garrett for his 60 years of loyal service with 1-5 the Galena Park Volunteer Fire Department; and 1-6 WHEREAS, George Garrett began his service as a firefighter with 1-7 the Galena Park Volunteer Fire Department on December 1, 1936, and 1-8 completed 60 years of service on December 1, 1996; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born December 4, 1912, George Garrett was one of the 1-10 original crew members of the department when it was first created; 1-11 he is now 84 years old and is still serving as a firefighter; and 1-12 WHEREAS, An outstanding citizen, George Garrett is well known 1-13 for his dedication to his work as a firefighter and for his superior 1-14 courage and leadership; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Over the years, he has consistently displayed 1-16 expertise and sound judgment in dealing with the unique challenges 1-17 of a fireman's duty, and his contributions to the safety of the 1-18 people of Galena Park are innumerable; and 1-19 WHEREAS, As late as 1996, Mr. Garrett was named Firefighter 1-20 of the Year, a title he had already received on several occasions; 1-21 in tribute to Mr. Garrett's exceptional tenure with the department, 1-22 Engine Truck Number 3 was named in his honor; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 75th Legislature, hereby commend George Garrett on his many years 2-2 of distinguished public service and extend to him best wishes for 2-3 the future; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 2-5 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-6 ______________________________________ 2-7 President of the Senate 2-8 I hereby certify that the above 2-9 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-10 on February 25, 1997. 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Secretary of the Senate 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Member, Texas Senate
