 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to recognize Devki Gupta

 1-4     and his wife, Satyawati, on the auspicious occasion of their being

 1-5     sworn in as citizens of the United States on February 27, 1997; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Devki and Satyawati Gupta came to the United States,

 1-7     and in October, 1983, Devki began work in the Office of the

 1-8     Comptroller of Public Accounts; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Devki had worked for the Comptroller's Office in

1-10     India for 25 years; after he retired, he worked for the government

1-11     of Zambia for five years; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Dedicated to public service, this admirable

1-13     gentleman is an outstanding employee who takes pride in his work

1-14     and his knowledge of state rules and laws; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Devki is the proud father of four children, all of

1-16     whom are married, and the grandfather of 11; and

1-17           WHEREAS, As naturalized citizens, Devki and Satyawati

1-18     receive all the rights and privileges of American citizenship;

1-19     now, therefore, be it

1-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

1-21     75th Legislature, hereby join the family and friends of

1-22     Devki and Satyawati Gupta and fellow Americans in congratulating

1-23     them on their American citizenship; and, be it further

 2-1           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

 2-2     these two new citizens of our country as an expression of the

 2-3     high regard of the Texas Senate.
