 1-3                                  In Memory

 1-4                                     of

 1-5                           Minerva Higgins Swindle

 1-6           WHEREAS, The citizens of Houston mourned the passing of one of

 1-7     the city's well-known businesswomen, Minerva "Tweed" Higgins Swindle,

 1-8     who died February 21, 1997, at the age of 64; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, The beloved individual will be deeply missed by her

1-10     family and friends, and she will be remembered with gratitude for her

1-11     contributions to the lives of her clients and patients; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Born on December 26, 1932, in Brazoria, Texas,

1-13     Minerva graduated with honors from Charlton Pollard High School in

1-14     Beaumont, Texas; she later moved to Houston, where she lived the rest

1-15     of her life; and

1-16           WHEREAS, A woman of exceptional talents and abilities,

1-17     Mrs. Swindle was a licensed cosmetologist, licensed vocational nurse,

1-18     x-ray technician, and real estate broker; she and her husband, Earl,

1-19     were in business together for 35 years; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Her devotion to her family was exemplary, and she

1-21     gave generously of herself to her husband and their children, Earl

1-22     and Rodney; and

1-23           WHEREAS, A devout Christian who lived her faith in her daily

 2-1     life, Minerva Swindle was a member of South Wesley A.M.E. Church; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, She leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment that

 2-3     will live on in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate to

 2-4     know her; now, therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-6     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of

 2-7     Minerva "Tweed" Higgins Swindle:  her husband, Earl Swindle, Sr.; her

 2-8     sons, Earl Myron and Rodney Earl; her parents, Ellis and

 2-9     Minnie Higgins; her brother, Ellis Higgins, Jr.; her sisters,

2-10     Hazel Austin, Johnelle Arceneaux, and Dr. Joyce Holley; her

2-11     mother-in-law, Bernice Chumbley; and her father-in-law,

2-12     W. M. Swindle; and, be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her

2-14     family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,

2-15     and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-16     Minerva "Tweed" Higgins Swindle.
