By: Whitmire S.R. No. 261 1-1 By: Whitmire S.R. No. 261 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Dr. Arthur C. Beall, Jr., who has been selected 1-5 as the Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 1997 by The Houston 1-6 Surgical Society; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Arthur Beall received 1-8 his medical degree from Emory University and served his residency 1-9 at Methodist Hospital and Baylor University College of Medicine 1-10 from 1954 to 1961; he also served as a research fellow at the 1-11 Houston Heart Association from 1960 to 1961; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Dr. Beall was an assistant chief of the Thoracic 1-13 and Cardiovascular Branch, Surgical Service, United States Naval 1-14 Hospital, in Oakland, California, from 1956 to 1958 and was LCDR, 1-15 Medical Corps, United States Naval Reserve from 1959 to 1963; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A professor of surgery at Baylor College of 1-17 Medicine, Dr. Beall is well known for his expertise in the field 1-18 of thoracic surgery; he has worked closely with Dr. Denton Cooley 1-19 and Dr. Michael DeBakey, and he served as president of the 1-20 Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society in 1978 and 1-21 as president of the Houston Cardiology Society in 1991; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Highly respected for his outstanding work, 1-23 Dr. Beall has a number of hospital associations, which include 2-1 attending with the Methodist Hospital and with Ben Taub General 2-2 Hospital; he is chief of Surgical Service with the Veterans 2-3 Affairs Medical Center and serves on the courtesy staff of 2-4 Saint Luke's Episcopal Hospital and Texas Children's Hospital; 2-5 and 2-6 WHEREAS, Devoted to his profession, Dr. Beall has dedicated 2-7 his life to helping his patients with their cardiovascular problems 2-8 and to providing superior surgical care to the residents of Harris 2-9 County; and 2-10 WHEREAS, The citizens of Harris County and Texans across the 2-11 state have greatly benefitted from the dedication and skill of 2-12 this exceptionally talented surgeon; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 75th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Arthur Beall on his 2-15 outstanding career and extend congratulations to him on his 2-16 selection as Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 1997; and, 2-17 be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-19 Dr. Beall as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 President of the Senate 2-22 I hereby certify that the above 2-23 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-24 on March 3, 1997. 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 Secretary of the Senate 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 Member, Texas Senate
