No. 263 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in 1-4 recognizing Wendy McCuiston, who was recently awarded the Bernard 1-5 and Audre Rapoport Teaching Award, 1997 Texas Excellence Award for 1-6 Outstanding Teacher; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Supported by The University of Texas at Austin 1-8 College of Education and the Ex-Students' Association, this 1-9 award seeks to raise the awareness of contributions that teachers 1-10 make and to raise the prestige of the teaching profession in 1-11 communities across the state; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The selection process began when individual teachers 1-13 were nominated by their principals; those chosen few receive a cash 1-14 award, a visit to The University of Texas campus, a specially 1-15 commissioned bronze sculpture, and several corporate partnerships; 1-16 and 1-17 WHEREAS, Educated at New Mexico State University, 1-18 Mrs. McCuiston received her bachelor's degree in home economics 1-19 education in 1977 and her master's degree from Corpus Christi 1-20 State University in Occupational and Developmental Training; 1-21 she has been diligent in attending conferences and continuing 1-22 her professional educational courses; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Lauded by her principal as the ideal teacher, 2-1 Mrs. McCuiston feels that home economics and the life skills 2-2 it teaches can greatly benefit her students, all of whom will work 2-3 in the real world; Mrs. McCuiston impresses on her pupils that jobs 2-4 are stepping stones to teach them the skills needed for their 2-5 lifelong careers; and 2-6 WHEREAS, This highly skilled educator seeks to prepare 2-7 individuals to manage work, home, and family life; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Having taught for 18 years, Mrs. McCuiston has 2-9 a winning approach to working with her students; her students 2-10 love her and will work quite hard to please her; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Mrs. McCuiston instills in her students a lifelong 2-12 love of learning; a source of great pride to El Paso's Jefferson 2-13 High School, she has distinguished herself in her profession; now, 2-14 therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 75th Legislature, hereby commend Wendy McCuiston on her 2-17 exceptional career and extend congratulations to her on winning 2-18 the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Teaching Award; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-20 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on March 3, 1997. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
