 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing the Eastwood High School Student Council on its recent

 1-5     selection as host of the 1997 Texas Association of Student Councils'

 1-6     Annual State Convention; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, The 1997 convention is the association's 61st annual

 1-8     state convention and takes place May 1 to May 3 in Austin; it will

 1-9     be the first time in the history of the association that an El Paso

1-10     area high school will host the convention; and

1-11           WHEREAS, This year's convention is the largest gathering of

1-12     high school student government associations in the world, with more

1-13     than 4,200 high school participants from over 1,300 member schools;

1-14     and

1-15           WHEREAS, The students of Eastwood High School have been

1-16     working hard to prepare for the event; the occasion calls for 60

1-17     students and 12 faculty members to travel to Austin and illustrate

1-18     their talents and leadership skills; and

1-19           WHEREAS, As host school, Eastwood High School will be

1-20     providing entertainment for the opening of various general sessions,

1-21     developing registration packets, and producing artwork in accordance

1-22     with the conference theme; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Eastwood High School is a first-rate institution,

 2-1     and the selection of its student council as host of the

 2-2     association's annual convention indicates the high quality of its

 2-3     students, faculty, and administration; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-5     75th Legislature, hereby commend the Eastwood High School Student

 2-6     Council on its outstanding leadership and extend congratulations

 2-7     to its members and to the school on its selection as the host of

 2-8     the 1997 Texas Association of Student Councils' Annual State

 2-9     Convention; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

2-11     school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
