1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-3 WHEREAS, The First United Methodist Church of Trenton, Texas,
1-4 is celebrating the dedication of its 100-year historical marker,
1-5 and the Texas Senate is pleased to extend congratulations on this
1-6 significant milestone; and
1-7 WHEREAS, On Sunday, March 16, 1997, the congregation will
1-8 gather after the worship service to celebrate; guests are invited
1-9 to join the parishioners at an old-fashioned fried chicken lunch
1-10 following the dedication; and
1-11 WHEREAS, The First United Methodist Church was originally
1-12 organized from a group of local Christians who met in a downtown
1-13 Trenton location starting in 1887; and
1-14 WHEREAS, The Methodist Episcopal Church, South, sent the
1-15 Reverend W. J. Bludworth as pastor to lead the group in 1895;
1-16 during his three-year appointment, land was purchased for a
1-17 church building and parsonage; in 1896, the church building was
1-18 completed and the first service was held on May 14, 1896; the
1-19 church parsonage was built next door to the church in 1914; and
1-20 WHEREAS, For the past 100 years, the First United Methodist
1-21 Church has provided a sacred sanctuary for God's servants to
1-22 worship in peace; during that time the church has ministered to
1-23 the Christian needs of generations of Texans with an unceasing
2-1 devotion to the spiritual growth of its members; and
2-2 WHEREAS, The First United Methodist Church has been the
2-3 source of friendship, hope, and comfort to those who worship
2-4 there, and its members have offered their services to the
2-5 community; now, therefore, be it
2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-7 75th Legislature, hereby recognize the First United Methodist
2-8 Church of Trenton on the momentous occasion of its historical
2-9 marker dedication ceremony and express its admiration to the
2-10 members of the congregation on this special day in the life
2-11 of their church; and, be it further
2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-13 expression of the esteem of the Texas Senate with best wishes
2-14 for a most blessed celebration.
