 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, On February 18, 1997, the Dallas All Sports

 1-4     Association presented Jake Moran with the Amateur Athletic Union

 1-5     Youth Excel Program award in recognition of his outstanding

 1-6     achievements in gymnastics, and this singular honor is truly

 1-7     worthy of special praise and recognition; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, A senior at Lake Highlands High School, Mr. Moran

 1-9     is an All-American ranked 12th in the state in all-around

1-10     gymnastics; he received the silver medal in the pommel horse event

1-11     at the Texas State Gymnastics meet, and he is ranked in the top 10

1-12     nationally for that event; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Mr. Moran's accomplishments are all the more

1-14     remarkable for the fact that he suffers from cystic fibrosis,

1-15     a debilitating disease that affects the lungs, and his courage

1-16     and determination in surmounting this obstacle have inspired all

1-17     those whose lives he has touched; and

1-18           WHEREAS, A young man of many and diverse interests,

1-19     Mr. Moran is a member of the National Honor Society and the

1-20     mathematics club at Lake Highlands High School, and he further

1-21     contributes to the community through his work with troubled

1-22     children; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Mr. Moran's award is accompanied by a $5,000

 2-1     scholarship, and as he looks forward to continuing his pursuit

 2-2     of gymnastics throughout his college career, his many noteworthy

 2-3     endeavors thus far bode well for this next exciting chapter in his

 2-4     life; now, therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-6     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Jake Moran on receiving the

 2-7     Amateur Athletic Union Youth Excel Program award and extend to him

 2-8     sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the

 2-9     future; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

2-11     prepared for Mr. Moran as an expression of highest regard by the

2-12     Texas Senate.
