 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing Jane Burleson from Rocksprings High School on being

 1-5     one of the 1996-1997 recipients of the 10 Denius-UIL Sponsor

 1-6     Excellence Awards; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, The Cain Foundation and the University

 1-8     Interscholastic League are cosponsors of the award which recognizes

 1-9     outstanding teachers who play a special role as UIL directors,

1-10     sponsors, and coaches in the lives of young people; and

1-11           WHEREAS, The award was named for Frank W. Denius, renowned

1-12     civic leader in Austin, who has been a director of the Cain

1-13     Foundation since 1955 and has been Executive Committee Chairman

1-14     since 1983; and

1-15           WHEREAS, The sponsors who win the awards help superior

1-16     students in developing and refining their extracurricular talents

1-17     to the highest degree possible within the educational system while

1-18     helping these students keep their personal worth separate from their

1-19     success or failure in competition; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Each high school in the State of Texas was invited

1-21     to submit a nomination, and the final 10 winners were picked through

1-22     a rigorous selection process; and

1-23           WHEREAS, In recognition of Mrs. Burleson's winning this

 2-1     coveted honor, she was presented with a distinctive symbolic trophy

 2-2     as well as a monetary award in a recent ceremony; Mrs. Burleson

 2-3     teaches at Rocksprings High School in Rocksprings and welcomes the

 2-4     opportunity to work more closely with her students in preparing

 2-5     them for UIL competition; now, therefore, be it

 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-7     75th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Jane Burleson

 2-8     for her exceptional contributions to her students in preparing for

 2-9     the UIL competitions; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-11     her as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
