 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes special

 1-4     pleasure in welcoming the Italian dignitaries from the beautiful

 1-5     City of Monasterolo Di Savigliano who are visiting the City of

 1-6     Duncanville and the Lone Star State during March, 1997; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, The cities of Monasterolo Di Savigliano and

 1-8     Duncanville have entered into a "twin-city" relationship to

 1-9     share a common bond of goodwill and to participate in a cultural

1-10     exchange; and

1-11           WHEREAS, The idea of sharing ideas and learning about how

1-12     the residents of each city live developed during a visit to the

1-13     Italian city by Duncanville husband-and-wife dentists, Cecil Wood

1-14     and Nancy Evans, and their friend Dario Crosetto during the

1-15     Christmas holidays of 1995; and

1-16           WHEREAS, They were the guests of Mr. Crosetto's mother,

1-17     who still lives in the small Italian community of 1,200 people;

1-18     they were especially impressed with the friendly people and the

1-19     beauty of the ancient town founded more than 1,000 years ago by

1-20     a monastery; and

1-21           WHEREAS, After touring the castle of Monasterolo, which at

1-22     one time housed the elementary school that Mr. Crosetto attended

1-23     as a child and now contains municipal offices, the visitors met

 2-1     Mayor Antonio Prochietto who suggested the two communities become

 2-2     "gemelli," or twins; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, Mayor Prochietto and Duncanville Mayor Ed Purcell

 2-4     exchanged letters and agreed on the relationship between their two

 2-5     cities; a citywide celebration is planned by the City of Duncanville

 2-6     to bring together the distinguished dignitaries from Italy and the

 2-7     citizens of their fair city; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, The bonding of the two communities will serve to

 2-9     broaden the understanding and appreciation of the uniqueness of

2-10     each culture while furthering the exchange ranging from the arts

2-11     to agriculture; now, therefore, be it

2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-13     75th Legislature, hereby extend a hearty Texas welcome to

2-14     Mayor Antonio Prochietto and the Italian dignitaries from the

2-15     City of Monasterolo Di Savigliano with best wishes for a most

2-16     enlightening and rewarding gathering; and, be it further

2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-18     the notable group as an expression of the high regard of the

2-19     Texas Senate.
