No. 285 1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 commend Leticia Paez for her notable contributions to the citizens 1-5 of El Paso throughout her illustrious career in the fields of health 1-6 education and community service; and 1-7 WHEREAS, In recognition of her many years of exemplary work, 1-8 Leticia Paez will be inducted into the Health Care category of the 1-9 1997 El Paso Women's Hall of Fame on March 13, 1997; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A 1974 graduate of The University of Texas at 1-11 El Paso with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice, 1-12 Leticia continued her education by earning a master of arts degree 1-13 in sociology in 1976 and a master's degree in public administration 1-14 in 1987; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Since 1978, the dynamic woman has served the 1-16 El Paso community through her roles as director and leader in 1-17 diverse multicultural organizations by building coalitions that 1-18 focus resources directly on community needs; and 1-19 WHEREAS, An expert in her field, she directs her energies 1-20 to providing a better quality of life and opportunities for 1-21 disenfranchised populations in the El Paso area; as Director of 1-22 the W. K. Kellogg Foundation Community Partnership Institute for 1-23 Border Community Health Education since 1994, she effectively works 2-1 with health and social justice organizations to provide health care 2-2 for those in the El Paso County colonias; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Her primary responsibility is to develop and sustain 2-4 a partnership between The University of Texas at El Paso, Texas Tech 2-5 University Health Sciences Center, and the County of El Paso; she 2-6 has earned the respect and trust of the communities she serves and 2-7 the health professionals she supervises; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Miss Paez has also volunteered her time to various 2-9 civic groups and has served on the Texas Commission for Women, 2-10 Texas Quadricentennial Commission, and the Lower Valley Health 2-11 Care Task Force; and 2-12 WHEREAS, A role model for young women in the Southwest, she 2-13 has been instrumental in helping women enter the field of health 2-14 professions administration; the dignity and respect with which she 2-15 treats her staff and volunteers, as well as the support she offers, 2-16 inspires them to give their best effort; now, 2-17 therefore, be it 2-18 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-19 75th Legislature, hereby express its appreciation to Leticia Paez 2-20 for her praiseworthy service to the citizens of El Paso and extend 2-21 best wishes to her in her future endeavors; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-23 her as a token of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 President of the Senate 2-26 I hereby certify that the above 2-27 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-1 on March 5, 1997. 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
