 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great

 1-4     pleasure in recognizing David Bernsen for his many worthwhile

 1-5     contributions to the citizens of the State of Texas; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Appointed to the Texas Transportation Commission by

 1-7     Governor Ann Richards in November, 1991, he served as chairman

 1-8     from 1993 to 1995; his term expires on February 1, 1997; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. Bernsen earned a bachelor's degree in business

1-10     administration from Lamar University; while at the university,

1-11     he lettered in baseball all four years and was voted Most Valuable

1-12     Player in the Southland Conference in 1972; and

1-13           WHEREAS, An active alumnus of his alma mater, he has served

1-14     as vice president of Lamar University's Cardinal Club and has been

1-15     inducted into the Lamar University Hall of Honor, and he is chair

1-16     of the university's Intercollegiate Athletic Task Force; and

1-17           WHEREAS, A noted sportsman, Mr. Bernsen is a former director

1-18     of Ducks, Unlimited; and

1-19           WHEREAS, A member of the State Bar of Texas, David Bernsen

1-20     earned his doctor of jurisprudence degree from Saint Mary's

1-21     University School of Law; and

1-22           WHEREAS, A partner in the Beaumont law firm of Bernsen,

1-23     Jamail, and Goodson, Mr. Bernsen is a member of the United States

 2-1     Court of Appeals for the 5th and 11th circuits and the United States

 2-2     District Court for the Eastern, Southern, and Northern districts of

 2-3     Texas; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, A member of the Harris and Jefferson County bar

 2-5     associations, this respected attorney is also a member of the Texas

 2-6     Turnpike Authority; he has served as director and vice president

 2-7     of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, The citizens of Beaumont, Jefferson and Harris

 2-9     counties, and the State of Texas have greatly benefitted from the

2-10     innumerable efforts of Mr. Bernsen, and he is certainly worthy of

2-11     legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-13     75th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the exceptional

2-14     accomplishments of David Bernsen; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-16     him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
