 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, On March 18, 1997, Seagoville Day will be celebrated

 1-4     at the State Capitol by the proud citizens of Seagoville in

 1-5     recognition of their illustrious town and its contributions to

 1-6     the State of Texas; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Founded in 1876, the town was originally named Seago

 1-8     after T. K. Seago, the gentleman who cleared his land of timber

 1-9     and built the first store in town; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The first official plat of the city was recorded in

1-11     the Dallas County Deed Records in 1883; in 1910, the post office

1-12     added the "ville" to Seago and the name became officially

1-13     Seagoville; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Located in southeastern Dallas County and partly

1-15     in Kaufman County, the town was founded in the middle of the

1-16     blackland soil and was perfect for agricultural use; today, lots

1-17     for residences and businesses are reasonably priced; and

1-18           WHEREAS, The inhabitants of this bustling little town,

1-19     with a growing population of 9,500, are proud of their small town

1-20     atmosphere and of having access to all the cultural and sports

1-21     activities and advantages of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex; and

1-22           WHEREAS, "Home of the Post Oak Preserve and Environmental

1-23     Center," Seagoville has seven parks, tennis facilities, a senior

 2-1     citizens' center, and two youth centers; nearby is Lake Ray Hubbard

 2-2     which offers 22,745 acres for fishing, water sports, or plain

 2-3     relaxation; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Seagoville hosts Seagofest in October of each year

 2-5     to celebrate the flight of the beautiful Monarch butterfly; as they

 2-6     migrate south, Seagoville is a layover stop for them; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, The residents of Seagoville are understandably

 2-8     proud of their town and its surroundings; now, therefore, be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-10     75th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the citizens of

2-11     Seagoville for an outstanding Seagoville Day; and, be it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-13     the City of Seagoville as a memento of this special day and as

2-14     an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
