No. 302 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 recognize Michael Salvato, who is retiring after 10 years of loyal 1-5 service as superintendent of the Highland Park Independent School 1-6 District and 34 years of service in the Texas public school system; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Salvato joined the Texas school system in 1963 1-9 and moved to Amarillo in 1978; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A respected educator in the State of Texas, 1-11 Mr. Salvato has had an outstanding career that has included 1-12 serving as a science teacher and assistant principal in the 1-13 La Marque Independent School District and as a teacher at 1-14 William B. Travis Junior High School; he served as an assistant 1-15 principal for the River Road Independent School District and as 1-16 principal of Dalhart High School from 1984 to 1986; and 1-17 WHEREAS, He became Highland Park principal in 1986 and 1-18 superintendent of Highland Park Independent School District in 1-19 1987; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful leader in education, 1-21 Mr. Salvato is noted for his achievements in the area of school 1-22 finance and for playing a major role in procuring the partnership 1-23 between the Amarillo Independent School District and Highland Park; 2-1 the partnership allows Highland Park to share revenue with the 2-2 Amarillo Independent School District and to receive services in 2-3 return; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Due to Mr. Salvato's superior guidance, innumerable 2-5 Texas public school students have distinguished themselves at 2-6 state universities and in their careers and public service; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Mr. Salvato has contributed greatly to the quality 2-8 of education in the Amarillo community, and he has played a major 2-9 role in making the Highland Park Independent School District the 2-10 exceptional school system it is today; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 75th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to Michael Salvato 2-13 for his notable achievements and his years of dedication in the 2-14 field of education; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-16 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the above 2-20 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-21 on March 10, 1997. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
