 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is quite proud to recognize the

 1-4     Girl Scouts of the United States of America, the oldest and largest

 1-5     organization of its type in the nation exclusively serving the needs

 1-6     of girls and young women; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Girl Scouting builds self-esteem and teaches girls

 1-8     to be confident, assertive, and active in meeting life's challenges

 1-9     while being caring and committed to improving life in their

1-10     communities; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Girl Scouting also plays an important part in

1-12     substituting positive social acts for destructive behavior and

1-13     in teaching skills for resolving conflicts without violence; and

1-14           WHEREAS, The Lone Star Girl Scout Council serves over 12,000

1-15     girls and 5,200 adults in 18 central Texas counties; it works hand

1-16     in hand with dedicated volunteers to provide educational and

1-17     recreational opportunities that teach the values of commitment,

1-18     honesty, and respect for others as well as for themselves; and

1-19           WHEREAS, On March 12, 1997, the Girl Scouts of the

1-20     United States of America, including the Lone Star Girl Scout

1-21     Council, will celebrate the 85th Anniversary of Girl Scouting in

1-22     the United States; this date will begin a series of grown-up Girl

1-23     Scouts alumni reunions and luncheons as well as parades and many

 2-1     other celebratory activities for girls throughout Texas and our

 2-2     nation during the remainder of 1997; now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-4     75th Legislature, hereby declare Wednesday, March 12, 1997, Girl

 2-5     Scout Day in Texas and declare all participating Girl Scouts honored

 2-6     citizens of Texas during this day; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

 2-8     Girl Scouts as an expression of the high regard and esteem of the

 2-9     Texas Senate.
