 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

 1-4     recognize the citizens of Aransas County on Aransas County Day,

 1-5     March 18, 1997; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Created and organized in 1871 from Refugio County,

 1-7     Aransas County has Rockport as its county seat and is an area of

 1-8     527 square miles; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, An area which produces cotton, grains, and fruits,

1-10     Aransas County has sandy loam and coastal clay soil which produce

1-11     these crops in abundance; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Home to many fishing, hunting, and tourist

1-13     facilities, the county is lucky to include Goose Island State

1-14     Park and the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, the principal

1-15     wintering ground for the nearly extinct whooping cranes; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The county is a prime destination for tourists

1-17     whose dollars help the local economy; and

1-18           WHEREAS, The charming town of Rockport features several

1-19     lovely restored homes dating back to the 1860s; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Known as an outstanding location for retirement

1-21     living, the area is noted for its mild climate and superb scenery;

1-22     and

1-23           WHEREAS, Today prosperous seafood packeries, flourishing

 2-1     ship building and repair yards, and huge cattle ranches are

 2-2     located in the area; certainly Aransas County citizens have

 2-3     many excellent reasons to be proud of their county; now,

 2-4     therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-6     75th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Aransas County

 2-7     on its special day of March 18, 1997; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

 2-9     Aransas County as an expression of the high esteem of the

2-10     Texas Senate.
