 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

 1-4     recognize Teodoro Garcia on the momentous occasion of his 108th

 1-5     birthday on January 7, 1997; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, The last known living soldier who fought to defend

 1-7     President Porfirio Diaz against Pancho Villa, Mr. Garcia has been

 1-8     a resident of Texas City for 54 years; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, A big celebration was given in Mr. Garcia's honor

1-10     on January 12, 1997, and many of his descendants were present at

1-11     the gala, where a 10-member mariachi band from Houston played; and

1-12           WHEREAS, A resident of Gulf Care Health Center, Mr. Garcia

1-13     chose to move to the center in recent years; in 1994, he was the

1-14     grand marshal of a parade to dedicate Bay Street Park; and

1-15           WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman is truly deserving of

1-16     the long and fruitful life with which he has been blessed; now,

1-17     therefore, be it

1-18           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

1-19     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Teodoro Garcia on the

1-20     celebration of his 108th birthday; and, be it further

1-21           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared

1-22     for Mr. Garcia as an expression of the highest esteem of the

1-23     Texas Senate.
