 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing Bob Shelton, an outstanding citizen of our state and

 1-5     a dedicated coach, who is being presented the Community Builders

 1-6     Award by the Buda Masonic Lodge on March 20, 1997; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Bob Shelton is a graduate of Dripping Springs High

 1-8     School, where he was named to the All-District team in football

 1-9     and All-State team in basketball; he was a basketball player at

1-10     The University of Texas and at Southwest Texas State University; he

1-11     holds a master's degree from Southwest Texas State University; and

1-12           WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Hays County, Bob Shelton has

1-13     coached and taught in the Hays School District for 33 years; and

1-14           WHEREAS, A talented coach who is respected throughout the

1-15     state, Coach Shelton has an overall football record of 210-131-7;

1-16     his record includes a regional championship at Buda High School in

1-17     1966, bi-district championships at Hays in 1976 and 1988, a district

1-18     championship at Hays in 1991, and participation in the quarterfinals

1-19     in 1994 and the state finals in 1996 at Hays; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Coach Shelton served on the Board of Directors of

1-21     the Texas High School Coaches Association from 1987 to 1989 and was

1-22     recently presented the Tom Landry Award in conjunction with the

1-23     Texas High School Football Hall of Fame; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Bob Shelton gives generously

 2-2     of his time and energy to others and is an admired leader in his

 2-3     community; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-5     75th Legislature, hereby commend Bob Shelton on his invaluable

 2-6     contributions to his school district, his community, and his state

 2-7     and extend best wishes to him for the future; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

 2-9     Coach Shelton as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
