No. 323 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 recognize Dr. Parker Williams, who recently retired after 40 1-5 years of loyal service in the field of education and 18 years 1-6 of outstanding service as president of San Jacinto College South; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, A highly respected educator in the State of Texas, 1-9 Dr. Parker Williams graduated from North Texas State University, 1-10 earned a master's degree in education, and earned a doctorate from 1-11 East Texas State University; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Dr. Williams joined San Jacinto College in 1961 and 1-13 served as its head librarian until 1974 when a second campus was 1-14 added to the district; she then served as Dean of Library Services 1-15 for both campuses while earning her doctorate; and 1-16 WHEREAS, In 1979, San Jacinto College South was created 1-17 as a third campus, and Dr. Williams was named president; and 1-18 WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful college president, 1-19 Dr. Williams has been listed in Who's Who in American Education 1-20 and Who's Who in American College and University Administrators; 1-21 she is noted for her strong commitment to providing quality and 1-22 excellence in education; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Generous with her time and energy, she has also 2-1 been an active member and officer in many educational and civic 2-2 groups, including the Pasadena Historical Society and the 2-3 South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce; and 2-4 WHEREAS, As a tribute to Dr. Williams's outstanding work in 2-5 the community and in the fields of education and library science, 2-6 the Harris County Commissioners Court named the newest and largest 2-7 county library in her honor; the Parker Williams Library will be 2-8 located a few blocks from the San Jacinto College South campus; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Due to Dr. Williams's superior leadership, 2-10 innumerable San Jacinto College South graduates have distinguished 2-11 themselves in their careers and public service; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Dr. Williams has contributed significantly to the 2-13 quality of education in our state, and she has played a major role 2-14 in making the San Jacinto College South one of the most successful 2-15 colleges in Texas; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-17 75th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to Dr. Parker Williams 2-18 for her notable achievements and her years of dedication in the field 2-19 of education and to San Jacinto College South; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-21 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 President of the Senate 2-24 I hereby certify that the above 2-25 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-26 on March 12, 1997. 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 Secretary of the Senate 2-29 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Member, Texas Senate
