 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to extend a warm

 1-4     welcome to the delegates from the Texas Association of Public

 1-5     Employee Retirement Systems who are visiting the State Capitol

 1-6     on March 25, 1997; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Dedicated to advancing the concerns of public

 1-8     employee retirement systems throughout the state, the Texas

 1-9     Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems held its annual

1-10     conference in Dallas on March 17 through March 20, 1996; and

1-11           WHEREAS, During the convention, TexPERS provided a wide range

1-12     of programs designed to educate and inform the administrators,

1-13     trustees, and employees of public pension plans who gathered from

1-14     all across the state; and

1-15           WHEREAS, The highly successful conference was attended by

1-16     over 475 people who were privileged to hear experts in government,

1-17     investment matters, and pension administration share their

1-18     knowledge in lectures and round table discussions; and

1-19           WHEREAS, The conference provided an excellent opportunity

1-20     for TexPERS to reiterate its goals:  to develop communication

1-21     between the diverse parties interested in public retirement plans,

1-22     to provide education and guidance to persons responsible for the

1-23     administration of plans, and to protect the rights of public

 2-1     pension systems and the employees they cover; now, therefore,

 2-2     be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-4     75th Legislature, hereby recognize March 25, 1997, as Texas

 2-5     Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems Day at the

 2-6     Capitol as they visit with their elected officials and extend

 2-7     best wishes to them for success in their important work; and,

 2-8     be it further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-10     the distinguished visitors as an expression of the high regard and

2-11     appreciation of the Texas Senate.
