 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to join the 1,200 members

 1-4     of the Texas Corrections Association in observing Corrections Day

 1-5     at the State Capitol on March 25, 1997; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, This prestigious event is being sponsored by the

 1-7     Texas Corrections Association in conjunction with crime victims

 1-8     and state officials to promote awareness and better inform the

 1-9     legislature and citizens of Texas about key corrections issues

1-10     and solutions; and

1-11           WHEREAS, In recognition of the legislative focus on improved

1-12     state service delivery and public accountability, observance of

1-13     Corrections Day will showcase outstanding juvenile and adult

1-14     correctional programs which have been initiated statewide to combat

1-15     crime and improve public safety; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The highlight of the Corrections Day agenda will

1-17     be the exhibit of exemplary programs located in the lower-level

1-18     Capitol Rotunda, featuring juvenile and adult criminal justice

1-19     clients and staff available to explain what works and why in these

1-20     model programs; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Corrections Day also affords an appropriate

1-22     opportunity to honor the countless professionals who serve with

1-23     pride and dedication in the field; it is also a day to pay tribute

 2-1     to the victims of crime who work hand in hand with corrections

 2-2     agencies and state policymakers to make the great State of Texas

 2-3     safer; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-5     75th Legislature, hereby commemorate the observance of Corrections

 2-6     Day at the Capitol on March 25, 1997, and commend the members of

 2-7     the Texas Corrections Association and the crime victims throughout

 2-8     Texas for their ongoing contributions to the betterment of society

 2-9     as well as their continued efforts to improve public protections

2-10     and the quality of life for concerned citizens everywhere.
