 1-3                                  In Memory

 1-4                                     of

 1-5                               Jimmie B. Keen

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens

 1-7     of San Angelo in mourning the loss of Jimmie B. Keen, who died

 1-8     February 14, 1997; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Jimmie Keen had been a resident of San Angelo

1-10     since 1942; he married Maxine Harwell on June 28, 1942, and served

1-11     in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Mr. Keen was dedicated to his work as a co-operate

1-13     judge and as a tax assessor-collector for Tom Green County; he

1-14     served two four-year terms as tax assessor-collector and was

1-15     president of the County Assessor-Collector Association of the

1-16     State of Texas in 1957 and 1958; and

1-17           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman,

1-18     Jimmie Keen was respected for his many accomplishments and was

1-19     a well-known leader in the San Angelo community; and

1-20           WHEREAS, A member of the Downtown Lions Club, he served as

1-21     cabinet secretary for district governor Bill Jones, Sr., and he

1-22     and Mrs. Keen were Century Club members of the Lions Children's

1-23     Camp in Kerrville; he was also a member and past master of the

 2-1     570 San Angelo Blue Lodge; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Mr. Keen was a life member of the San Angelo

 2-3     Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of City Development;

 2-4     he was retired from the Texas State Board of Insurance and had

 2-5     received a certificate of service in appreciation of his 12 years

 2-6     of meritorious service with that organization; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he

 2-8     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,

 2-9     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him;

2-10     and

2-11           WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Keen was a member of the

2-12     Church of Christ; and

2-13           WHEREAS, Jimmie Keen was a devoted husband who lived

2-14     his life to the fullest, and he leaves behind memories that

2-15     will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now,

2-16     therefore, be it

2-17           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-18     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to

2-19     the bereaved family of Jimmie B. Keen:  his brother and

2-20     sister-in-law, Waymon and Cordellia Keen; his sister-in-law

2-21     and her husband, Marcelle and Dr. Ollie Wilkinson; and his

2-22     sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Herman Whittle,

2-23     Maureen and Kenneth Harwell, and Louise and Harold Harwell;

2-24     and, be it further

2-25           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

 3-1     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy

 3-2     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,

 3-3     it do so in memory of Jimmie Keen.
