 1-2                                  In Memory

 1-3                                     of

 1-4                          Pierce Alexander Hoggett

 1-5           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens

 1-6     of Junction in mourning the untimely passing of one of the city's

 1-7     most esteemed civic leaders, Pierce Alexander "Dynamite" Hoggett,

 1-8     who died February 19, 1997, at the age of 63; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, In all his personal endeavors, the respected

1-10     gentleman devoted his life to helping others achieve success in

1-11     their lives, and his death will be deeply felt by all who had the

1-12     privilege of knowing him; and

1-13           WHEREAS, The beloved son of well-known ranchers

1-14     Marguerite Wright and Pierce A. Hoggett, Pierce was born in Junction

1-15     on February 14, 1934; he spent his childhood in Kerrville, where he

1-16     began a lifelong passion for roping and dancing; one of his proudest

1-17     accomplishments was winning the state high school roping contest; and

1-18           WHEREAS, After graduating from Southwest Texas State University,

1-19     Pierce Hoggett continued his education at The University of Texas,

1-20     where he earned his law degree; upon passing the bar exam, he

1-21     became a practicing attorney with his uncle, Coke Stevenson; later,

1-22     he began a long career in banking when he decided to enter the field

1-23     of estate planning; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Throughout his adult life, Mr. Hoggett gave

 2-2     generously of his time and energies to his community through his

 2-3     work on numerous boards and committees; during the time he was a

 2-4     resident of San Angelo, Pierce served as president of the board

 2-5     for both Crime Stoppers and the Institute of Cognitive Development;

 2-6     he was also a member of the Junction City Lodge Number 548; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, Recognized for his leadership abilities and

 2-8     contributions to his profession, Pierce Hoggett was admired for his

 2-9     dedication to the citizens of his community; now, therefore, be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-11     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members

2-12     of his family:  his son, Derrick Hoggett; his daughter and son-in-law,

2-13     Diane and Larry McMillan; his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and

2-14     Rosemary Hoggett; and his three grandchildren, Jason, Laramie, and

2-15     Kailey; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his

2-17     family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,

2-18     and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-19     Pierce Alexander "Dynamite" Hoggett.
