No. 332 1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Paul Page 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-7 of Eldorado, Texas, in mourning the loss of civic leader Paul Page, 1-8 who died February 15, 1997, at the age of 69; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born in Eldorado on September 16, 1927, he was 1-10 the youngest of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Page; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Paul graduated from Eldorado High School and attended 1-12 Southern Methodist University, graduating in 1949; and 1-13 WHEREAS, One of the most enjoyable experiences of his life 1-14 was being a starting halfback in the extraordinary backfield of 1-15 the Southern Methodist University national championship football 1-16 teams of the late 1940s; and 1-17 WHEREAS, When he graduated, he was the number one draft 1-18 choice of several professional teams, and he chose to play for 1-19 the Baltimore Colts; and 1-20 WHEREAS, In 1949, Paul married his college sweetheart, the 1-21 former Lucy Huckaby of Dallas; they later moved to Eldorado, 1-22 where he began his career in oil and ranching; and 1-23 WHEREAS, A lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, Paul 2-1 served as an elder and as a delegate to the General Assembly; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A man who believed in giving something back to 2-3 his community, he was a director of the First National Bank 2-4 of Eldorado, a member of the board of Schreiner College, and a 2-5 trustee of Southern Methodist University; and 2-6 WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman was inducted into the 2-7 Southern Methodist University Hall of Fame in 1981, and he was 2-8 later chosen recipient of the Southern Methodist University 2-9 Distinguished Alumni Award; and 2-10 WHEREAS, An exemplary and notable man, Paul Page was highly 2-11 respected for his many accomplishments and was a respected leader 2-12 in his town and state; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Page leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment 2-14 that will be remembered with gratitude by all those who knew and 2-15 loved him; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-17 75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to 2-18 the members of his family: his wife, Lucy Page; his children, 2-19 Paul Page, Jr., Patty and Randy Gardner, Kathy and Joe Nobles, 2-20 and Carolyn and Willis Price; his brother and sister-in-law, 2-21 Wilson and Helen Page; his sister-in-law, Maxine Page; and 2-22 his 12 grandchildren; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his 2-24 family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, 2-25 and when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-1 Paul Page. 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 President of the Senate 3-4 I hereby certify that the above 3-5 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-6 on March 13, 1997, by a rising vote. 3-7 ______________________________________ 3-8 Secretary of the Senate 3-9 ______________________________________ 3-10 Member, Texas Senate
