By: Nixon S.R. No. 338 1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Ernest W. Brewster 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-7 of Carthage in mourning the loss of Ernest W. Brewster, who died 1-8 March 10, 1997, at the age of 74; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born June 22, 1922, in the Pinehill area of 1-10 Rusk County, Ernest Brewster attended Concord High School in 1-11 Mount Enterprise; he graduated from Texas College in Tyler and 1-12 earned a master's degree in business administration from 1-13 Texas Southern University; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Brewster was a successful educator and 1-15 businessman who served his country during World War II; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Devoted to public service throughout his life, he 1-17 was dedicated to his work as a teacher, coach, and administrator 1-18 with the Carthage Independent School District for 44 years; he was 1-19 also the owner of a service station in Carthage for over 30 years; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Known to his friends as "Mr. B," Ernest Brewster 1-22 was deeply committed to helping children; he encouraged youths to 1-23 attend school and church and worked with summer jobs programs to 2-1 aid youngsters in their search for jobs; and 2-2 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman, 2-3 Mr. Brewster was respected for his many accomplishments and was a 2-4 beloved leader in his community; and 2-5 WHEREAS, His innumerable civic activities included serving 2-6 as a president of the Kiwanis Club of Carthage and being an active 2-7 member of the City of Carthage Planning and Zoning Commission, the 2-8 Child Welfare Board, the Panola County Chamber of Commerce, and 2-9 the East Texas Council of Governments; and 2-10 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, compassion, and 2-11 generosity, he gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his 2-12 wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those 2-13 who knew him; and 2-14 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Brewster was a member and 2-15 trustee of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Carthage; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Ernest Brewster was a devoted husband and father 2-17 who lived his life to the fullest, and he leaves behind memories 2-18 that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; 2-19 now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-21 75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-22 bereaved family of Ernest W. Brewster: his wife of 41 years, 2-23 Atholene Brewster; his sons, Winston and Kevan; and his daughters, 2-24 Machelle and Annelle; and, be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-1 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 3-2 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this 3-3 day, it do so in memory of Ernest W.
