No. 348 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Project LEAP on the occasion of the commencement of 1-5 the project's third class which takes place March 29, 1997; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The third class of Project LEAP has been administered 1-7 by the AIDS Foundation Houston; previous classes were administered 1-8 by The University of Texas School of Public Health and Texas 1-9 Southern University; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A highly effective and innovative program, Project LEAP 1-11 is a leadership training and skills building program for persons 1-12 living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs); and 1-13 WHEREAS, The goal of Project LEAP is to increase the number of 1-14 educated PLWHAs who are available for service on community 1-15 planning groups and boards of directors and the number who are 1-16 available to serve as advocates for other consumers of HIV-related 1-17 services; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Project LEAP is a unique program designed to help 1-19 PLWHAs, as well as the community as a whole, in coping with the 1-20 debilitating effects of AIDS, and the project is a source of 1-21 pride to its sponsors and to the City of Houston; now, therefore, 1-22 be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 75th Legislature, hereby extend appreciation to AIDS Foundation 2-2 Houston for administering the third class of Project LEAP and 2-3 extend congratulations to all associated with the program on the 2-4 occasion of this year's commencement; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-6 Project LEAP as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-7 ______________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the above 2-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-11 on March 18, 1997. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
