 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in

 1-4     recognizing Adelfa V. Flores for her 21 years of loyal service

 1-5     as a librarian at Martin High School in the Laredo Independent

 1-6     School District; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, A graduate of Incarnate Word College, Adelfa Flores

 1-8     earned a master's degree in library science from Our Lady of the

 1-9     Lake University in San Antonio; and

1-10           WHEREAS, She began her career in education as a substitute

1-11     teacher with the Laredo Independent School District and later

1-12     taught the third grade at McDonell Elementary School; in

1-13     February, 1972, she became the librarian at Martin High School,

1-14     where she worked with dedication until her retirement in 1993; and

1-15           WHEREAS, A devoted educator, Adelfa Flores gave generously

1-16     of her time and energy to the students of Martin High School; she

1-17     maintained an up-to-date learning resource center and helped students

1-18     to improve their research and study skills; and

1-19           WHEREAS, She inspired students to read and used occasions such

1-20     as National Library Week to strengthen the students' appreciation

1-21     of the world of books; and

1-22           WHEREAS, Mrs. Flores was a member of a number of professional

1-23     organizations, including the Texas Library Association and the

 2-1     Laredo Education Association; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, The students of Martin High School greatly benefitted

 2-3     from her skillful teaching methods, her sincere concern for the

 2-4     individual, and her wise counsel and encouragement; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, A dedicated and resourceful educator, Mrs. Flores

 2-6     instilled in her students an appreciation for literature and a

 2-7     love of challenge and learning; now, therefore, be it

 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-9     75th Legislature, hereby commend Adelfa V. Flores for her many

2-10     contributions to the educational system of Texas and extend best

2-11     wishes to her for the years ahead; and, be it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her

2-13     as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
