1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 371 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 recognize Texas Southern University's School of Technology on the 1-5 occasion of its Annual Banquet and Awards Gala on March 27, 1997; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, The theme of this year's banquet is The American 1-8 Opportunity; it concentrates on the active partnerships the school 1-9 has built with industry and business in the last 50 years as well 1-10 as the affiliations which will be fostered in the future; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The awards banquet will honor the contributions 1-12 of corporations and individuals who have assisted the school 1-13 with financial support, employment, promotion of the School of 1-14 Technology graduates, and internships; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The corporations, agencies, churches, and 1-16 foundations to be honored with a place on the Wall of Honor are: 1-17 Anheuser-Busch Company, U.S. Department of Transportation, Texas 1-18 Department of Transportation, Houston Endowment, Incorporated, 1-19 Houston Lighting & Power, HVJ Associates, Incorporated, Shell Oil 1-20 Company, Metropolitan Transit Authority, National Renewable Energy 1-21 Laboratory, PTI, Incorporated, State Energy Conservation Office, 1-22 Unity National Bank, McGee Chapel Church, and Wheeler Avenue Baptist 1-23 Church; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The alumni selected to be honored are: Larry Hayes, 2-2 Dr. Mitchell Allen, Milton Carroll, Victor Coleman, El France Lee, 2-3 Theodora Heath, Charles Hebert, Emroy Jones, Dr. Theodore Ingram, 2-4 Paul Moore, Glenmore Royal, Ed Simmons, Joe Stephens, Hosea Johnson, 2-5 and Patricia Weston; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The members of the faculty and staff being honored 2-7 are: George K. Coleman, Sr., Rodney Evans, John Fonteno, James Nix, 2-8 George Goode, Lewis Lawton, Philip F. Lee, A. J. Mims, Hulon White, 2-9 Dr. Robert L. Prater, Dr. Bridges A. Turner, Lester Webster, and 2-10 James Wilson; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Designated in 1973 by the Texas Legislature as 2-12 a special purpose institution of higher education for urban 2-13 programming, the School of Technology has had specialized 2-14 accreditation by the National Association of Industrial Technology 2-15 since 1979; and 2-16 WHEREAS, The School of Technology has as its main mission 2-17 preparing students to be proficient in the application of science 2-18 and technology to meet the ever-increasing challenges of high 2-19 technology in the public and private sectors; those honored by 2-20 placement on the Wall of Honor have been of invaluable help; now, 2-21 therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-23 75th Legislature, hereby commend Texas Southern University's School 2-24 of Technology and its honorees; and, be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-1 School of Technology as an expression of the high regard of the 3-2 Texas Senate. 3-3 Ellis 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 President of the Senate 3-6 I hereby certify that the above 3-7 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-8 on March 24, 1997. 3-9 ______________________________________ 3-10 Secretary of the Senate 3-11 ______________________________________ 3-12 Member, Texas Senate
