No. 372 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The University of Texas School of Law established 1-4 the Guanajuato Exchange Program in 1967 to be an academic and 1-5 cultural exchange with students attending the University of 1-6 Guanajuato in Mexico; and 1-7 WHEREAS, During spring break each year, a group of law 1-8 students from The University of Texas School of Law visits the 1-9 beautiful City of Guanajuato; the students stay in the homes of 1-10 local students, attend lectures on Mexican law, tour the city, and 1-11 experience heartwarming hospitality; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The colorful history and rich association of Texans 1-13 and their neighbors to the south has been characterized by the 1-14 sharing of their cultural and legal ties; and 1-15 WHEREAS, For the past 30 years, the exchange program between 1-16 the two fine universities has presented a unique opportunity for 1-17 these students to become familiar with the legal systems of another 1-18 country; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The exchange program provides a basis for enhanced 1-20 understanding of the economic, political, and social relationships 1-21 that exist between the United States and Mexico; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Students from the University of Guanajuato School 1-23 of Law in Mexico will be visiting the Texas Legislature on Tuesday, 2-1 March 25, 1997, and, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 2-2 program, a Capitol Day has been scheduled; the Texas Senate is 2-3 especially proud to welcome the visitors to the Lone Star State: 2-4 Ana Laura Plascencia Torres, Jose Manuel Sanchez Sanchez, 2-5 Felisa Rangel Garcia, Laura Elena Lopez Mata, Gloria Bravo Jasso, 2-6 Nubia Cristel Ortiz Garcia, Mauro Betancourt Alvarado, 2-7 Monica Isabel Olmos Leyva, Homero Alberto Serrano, Rosalba Guerra, 2-8 Francisco Esquivel Segoviano, Brenda Maldonado, Leticia Ducoing, 2-9 Silvia Fabiola Ochoa Martinez, Salvador Guzman Aldana, 2-10 Maria de la Luz Manriquez Guerrero, Rocio Isela Lopez Padilla, 2-11 Hugo Alejandro Guardado Santoyo, Arturo Lara Martinez, 2-12 Silvia Vidal Vidal, Alfonso Miranda Medina, Isis Garcia Sepulveda, 2-13 Luis Antonio Santoyo Moya, and Rogelio Meza Amao; now, therefore, 2-14 be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 75th Legislature, hereby declare these distinguished citizens of 2-17 Mexico to be honorary citizens of Texas with all attendant rights 2-18 and privileges; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-20 visiting delegation of the Guanajuato Exchange Program as a memento 2-21 of their participation in this important cultural exchange. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 President of the Senate 2-24 I hereby certify that the above 2-25 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-26 on March 24, 1997. 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 Secretary of the Senate 2-29 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
