 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to

 1-4     recognize the Brazosport College Jazz Band and the Brazosport

 1-5     College Coasters, two groups who will provide entertainment for

 1-6     the Brazoria County Day shrimp fest on March 25, 1997; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Established in 1972 under the direction of

 1-8     Jim Cargill, the Brazosport College Jazz Band has been under

 1-9     the direction of Richard Birk since 1985; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The brilliant performance of the band is the

1-11     direct result of continuous practice by the band members; they

1-12     are:  saxophone players Jamie Hayes, Aimee Lindsey, Scott Polk,

1-13     Jenny Townsend, and John White; trumpet players Horace Buchanan

1-14     and Travis Owsley; trombone players Mark Bohr and Jason Wilbanks;

1-15     horn player Billy Conner; and the rhythm players, Phillip Hintze

1-16     on the guitar, Cory Jeffers on the drums, and Carol Ness and

1-17     Lori Yarborough on the keyboards; and

1-18           WHEREAS, The Brazosport College Coasters were also formed

1-19     in 1972 by Dr. Donald Pugh; the singing group was to be a public

1-20     relations instrument and traveling entertainment which represented

1-21     the college; and

1-22           WHEREAS, The present director is Rodney Mason, ably assisted

1-23     by Richard Birk; the members of the Brazosport College Coasters

 2-1     are:  Cari Haagenson and Heather Murchison, sopranos; Billy Conner

 2-2     and Shane Newby, tenors; Eric Nelson, Joshua Powell, and

 2-3     Lance Reece, bass singers; Lindsey Alexander, Heidi Fields, and

 2-4     Carol Loveless, altos; Nadine Womak and Gentry Burke, keyboards;

 2-5     Cory Jeffers, drums; Jenny Townsend, tenor sax; Scott Polk, alto

 2-6     sax; Jason Wilbanks, trombone; Phillip Hintze, guitar; and

 2-7     Horace Buchanan, trumpet; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, Practicing many long hours, the two entertainment

 2-9     groups have become well known for their outstanding performances; and

2-10           WHEREAS, These fine young musicians have furnished untold

2-11     hours of melodious pleasure for their appreciative audiences;

2-12     now, therefore, be it

2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-14     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Brazosport College

2-15     Coasters and the Brazosport College Jazz Band on their participation

2-16     in Brazoria County Day and extend best wishes to them for the future;

2-17     and, be it further

2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-19     them as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
