1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 387

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     recognizing Sergeant Cruz Vargas, Corporal Luis D. Secion,

        1-4     Lance Corporal Eduardo Jimenez, and Lance Corporal Jose A. Garcia

        1-5     on their valor in assisting victims of a recent traffic accident

        1-6     that occurred in Duval County; and

        1-7           WHEREAS, These four men are members of the Laredo Detachment,

        1-8     Marine Corps League, United States Marine Corps Reserve, and are

        1-9     residents of Laredo; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, They were at the scene of a car accident

       1-11     approximately 12 miles west of Freer, Texas, on U.S. Highway 59,

       1-12     and they acted swiftly to provide aid to its four victims; and

       1-13           WHEREAS, The men helped agents of the United States Border

       1-14     Patrol to provide first aid to the victims and to free a victim

       1-15     who had been trapped in the wreckage; their assistance may well

       1-16     have saved the trapped victim's lower limbs, as her circulation

       1-17     had been severely hampered by the twisted car frame; and

       1-18           WHEREAS, These four individuals demonstrated superior courage

       1-19     and resourcefulness in responding to this emergency situation, and

       1-20     they deserve recognition for their heroic action; now, therefore,

       1-21     be it

       1-22           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

       1-23     75th Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant Cruz Vargas,

        2-1     Corporal Luis D. Secion, Lance Corporal Eduardo Jimenez, and

        2-2     Lance Corporal Jose A. Garcia who each displayed valor and

        2-3     dedication in dealing with a difficult and challenging situation;

        2-4     and, be it further

        2-5           RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for them

        2-6     as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
