1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 397

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing

        1-3     Joe Beaver of Huntsville, Texas, who was awarded the All-Around

        1-4     Cowboy Championship of the World for 1996 in December, 1996; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, An honor bestowed by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys

        1-6     Association, the championship is won during the National Finals

        1-7     Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada; it is the most respected accomplishment

        1-8     in the rodeo world; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, The Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce,

       1-10     the Huntsville Item, KSAM, and the Walker County Fair Association

       1-11     will honor Mr. Beaver by sponsoring a ceremony in his honor at the

       1-12     beginning of the Walker County Fair Rodeo on April 4, 1997; and

       1-13           WHEREAS, This is the second year in a row that Mr. Beaver

       1-14     has won this outstanding honor, and he showed his mettle and

       1-15     determination in overcoming adversity to win the 1996 championship;

       1-16     and

       1-17           WHEREAS, A seven-time world champion, Joe had broken his

       1-18     wrist in a roping accident in June, and his ratings began to fall;

       1-19     against his doctor's orders, he began calf roping for the Frontier

       1-20     Days Rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming, at the end of July, and by

       1-21     mid-November he had climbed back to a fourth-place ranking; and

       1-22           WHEREAS, Fearless and motivated, Joe earned his championship

       1-23     by his performances in two calf-roping rounds; his actions in

        2-1     this event proved that he truly deserved the championship; now,

        2-2     therefore, be it

        2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-4     75th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Joe Beaver on his

        2-5     winning the All-Around Cowboy Championship of the World for 1996;

        2-6     and, be it further

        2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-8     Mr. Beaver as an expression of the highest regard and esteem of the

        2-9     Texas Senate.
